The expression time flies by has never felt more appropriate! All of the shows went extremely well, and the members of the Class of 2014 are forever indebted to those involved, who helped make this show such a success. Without the time, energy, and enthusiasm from everyone it never would’ve happened. And yet it feels like just yesterday that we were having our first Senior Production Class, and now here we are only a few weeks away from graduating…We did it!!!! (well almost)
There are several people who the class would truly like to thank for not only their help with Senior Production, but for their guidance, love, and support throughout our four years at Juilliard.
To our families we especially want to thank you for always being there. Without you we wouldn't be where or who we are today. We would like to thank the dance faculty for generously imparting all of their wisdom and knowledge that helped sculpt us into the dancers we are today. Hilary, Robert, and Sarah in the Dance Division Office, who work behind the scenes to organize everything, without you three, absolutely nothing would get done! Next, we'd like to thank Brian and Keith, who are the most amazing technical directors. They are able to make every whim and dream we have come to life in the theater…no matter how crazy or ridiculous they are! Thank you to Susan and Brandt who mentored the third years and helped them create the lighting designs for all of the pieces. We are so grateful to everyone in the Costume Department for their beautiful work. Specifically Marion and Luke, along with the four costume designers of Senior Production: Justin, Mary, Amanda, and Kim. A huge thank you to David Parker, who helped mentor all of the choreographers. To the fantastic, creative, inspiring, and loving class of 2015: All of your energy, hard work, and creativity is greatly appreciated. Not only are you amazing dancers, technical crew, and friends, but also you are also fantastic lighting designers. To Risa Steinberg, you have been our guiding force and our fearless leader throughout this process. Not only did we learn what it takes to be producers, we learned who we are and what we are capable of. For that, thank you simply doesn't seem to cut it. From the bottom of our hearts we are so grateful and love you for everything you have done for us. Finally we would like to thank Lawrence Rhodes, the Director of the Dance Department. Thank you for exposing us to this incomparable learning environment, from which we are leaving, changed and enriched for the better. The class of 2014 loves you and thanks you for your leadership and constant support.
Although it feels like the end is so near for us, we still have many shows and responsibilities to keep up with. There are still auditions happening, and some of us have academic classes too. We have to prepare for our Senior Showcase, Senior Bow, and Choreographic Honors Show. It’s challenging to stay focused in school when we are eagerly looking forward to the future. At the same time, it’s sad to leave what has been our home and our family for the past four years. My classmates are my best friends, and I hope that no matter how far away from each other we are we keep in contact. One consoling fact is that the dance world is surprisingly small, and eventually something during the course of our careers will bring us back together.
Finally, in case you missed the show, three of the pieces from Senior Production will be performed again this month! Choreographers Taylor Drury, Eve Jacobs, and Nicholas Ranauro will be presenting their works again in the Peter Jay Sharp Theater in our Choreographic Honors Show at 8:00pm on May 16th or 17th. Tickets are free so make sure to take the opportunity to see these wonderful works again while you have the chance!
